Emmaus Mission Church
Emmaus Mission Church, on the road to Cathedral Peak – Sir Theophilus Shepstone, Bantu Affairs in Natal invited Berlin Missionary Society to establish a mission station amongst the Amangwani people under Chief Zikhale. The first missionaries were Posselt and Guldenpfenning. A year later Rev C Zunckel followed. Zunckel developed Emmaus into a centre for training Bantu evangelists. This was the second larger church built circa 1848. The mission station was declared a national Monument in 1959.
