ZOAR

On the R62. It was founded by PJ Joubert for the South African Missionary Society on the farm Elandsfontein in 1817. Named after Zoar on the Red Sea, mentioned in the Bible (Gen 14:2-8). The name at first meant ‘insignificance’, but when Lot fled from Sodom, it acquired the meaning of ‘refuge’, ’haven’. It was taken over by the Berlin Missionary Society in 1833.
DR Mission Church
DR Mission Church, Verenigende Gereformeerde kerk – The congregation dates from 1817. The church is dated 1895. Possibility that it could be much older.
