Established in 1892 by the manager of the City Deep Gold Mines and township owner Thomas Yeo Sherwill (1851-1924) and named after him.
House Hains
House Hains, 34 Becker St – This house was designed by Cope-Christie. The house was built in 1904 for Henry Hains.
Water tower
Water tower, Harley st – This cast-iron tank and tower was erected in 1913 to supply water to the Witwatersrand Ridge. It is fed from the adjoining reservoir which was built in 1894. The Tank was manufactured in Dortmund, Germany.
