VREDENBURG

It was laid out in 1883 and attained municipal status in 1932. The name, meaning ‘town of peace’ was given in 1875. Prior to that date the village bore the name of Procesfontein (lawsuit fountain)

Dutch Reformed Church – The cornerstone was laid by Rev Joubert on 20 March 1953. Next to church a monument commemorates the centenary of the Great Trek in 1938.
