Laid out on the farm Braamfontein in 1902.The name is perhaps derived from the park-like character of the area, or after Park Station.
Sunnyside Park
Sunnyside Park, Carse O’Gowrie st – 1895. Designed by Emley. The house was built and occupied by Hennen Jennings, an American mining engineer. He adopted the cyanide process to extract gold. Later used by Lord Roberts as his head office during the 2nd Anglo Boer War. It was used as a government house in 1906. The building was expanded and is now a hotel.
Hazeldene Hall
Hazeldene Hall, 20 Ridge rd – this house was built for Charles Jerome in 1902. He was a business partner of Thomas Cullinan. The cast-iron for the building was imported from Glasgow, Scotland.------------------------Plaas photo gesiedens hier-------------------------
The View
The View, 18 Ridge Rd – this house was built by Sir Thomas Cullinan in 1897. The house was extended with the same size and style as the original section. Sir Cullinan had 10 children hence the extension.
Scottish Memorial
• South African Scottish Memorial, Ridge Rd, just off St Andrews Rd - It commemorates the service of South African soldiers of Scottish origin during the Great War. Designed by William Tait Connor and sculpted by Arthur Taylor. Originally located in King George St in Joubert Park. Unveiled on 1 April 1923 by HRH Prince Arthur of Connaught, Governor-General of the Union of South Africa. It was moved to this site in 1994
Eiken Laan (Mikes Kitchen)
Eiken Laan (Mikes Kitchen), St Andrews Rd – Named after the avenue of oak trees planted by the first owner, James F Goch. Goch opened a photographic studio in Pritchard st as well as a Watchmakers and Jewelers shop. Designed in 1904 by JS Donaldson and built in 1905.
Dolobran
Dolobran, 1 Jubilee rd cnr Victoria St – Designed by JA Cope Christie. This house was built in 1905 for Colonel Sir Llewelyn Andersson. He commanded the South African light Horse Regiment
Wanooka House
Wanooka, St Andrews Rd – Built in 1902 for Captain Henry Smith Greenwood of the royal Canadian Dragoons. He took part in Lord Robert’s offensive during the ABW. Thereafter he commanded the royal Engineers with the Imperial Military Railways. He returned to Canada in 1908.
