ORANGE GROVE

Established in 1902 and take its name from an orchard of orange and lemon trees growing opposite the old Orange Grove Hotel.
Radium Beer Hall
Radium Beer Hall, Cnr Louis Botha and 9th St – Opened as a tearoom by the Khalil family in 1929. It had a double life as a shebeen selling liquor to black customers. After 13 years they acquired a wine and malt licence and the Radium Tearoom became the Radium Beerhall. The bar was rescued from the demolition of the Ferreirastown Hotel.
   Saint Luke’s Anglican Church
Saint Luke’s Anglican Church, High Rd Orchards – designed by Herbert Baker of the firm Baker and Masey in 1907. It was consecrated on the Sunday within the Octave of Bishop Karney. The church was enlarged in 1957. A tower and gallery were added. The church was re-dedicated on St Luke’s day in 1957 by Bishop Ambrose Reeves.
