OHRIGSTAD
It was laid out in 1845 but abandoned in 1848-49 because of deaths caused by malaria. Named Andries -Ohrigstad -. In honour of Voortrekker Andries Hendrik Potgieter and a merchant of Amsterdam, Georgius Gerardus Ohrig, a friend of the Voortrekkers. At a later stage the name Andries was removed. The present Ohrigstad was laid out in 1923.
The remains of a fort built
• The remains of a fort built on this site before 1847 by the Voortrekkers to protect themselves and their families against possible attacks by the Bantu.Proclaimed a national monument on 28 March 1969.
Voortrekker Graves
• Voortrekker Graves, rd to Burgersfort – Malaria caused deaths in the area between 1846 and 1849. By 1927 the cemetery contained about 24 graves. The memory stone was erected in 1938 to commemorate Voortrekkers who were reinterred here. A further group of Voortrekkers who was buried in the area was reinterred here on 10 October 1942.
Ohrigstad Primary School
• Ohrigstad Primary School – Started off as a corrugated iron building in 1906. A new building was built. The cornerstone was laid by General SW Burger on 3 March 1909 and the school was opened on 20 July 1909.
Grave of Genl Schalk Willem Burger
• Grave of Genl Schalk Willem Burger – Rd to Kranskloof Krugerspost. Kranskloof was the farm of Genl SW Burger (6 Sept 1852- 5 Dec 1918). He was a Member of the Volksraad of the ZAR in 1898 and one of the candidates for President. He was acting president of the ZAR 1900-1902.
Voortrekker Memorial Hall
Voortrekker Memorial Hall - The hall was built in 1950. Next to the building an obelisk to commemorate the Voortrekkers. Next to the obelisk is a sarcophage referring to the Schoeman Oxwagon centenery in 1938. Memorabilia was encased here to be reopen in December 2038.
Abel Jacobus Erasmus
Abel Jacobus Erasmus (1845 - 31 May 1912) He owned several farms in area including Graskop. He was the Native Commisioner for the ZAR. A respected man under the bl;ack people. He was the mediator in the Sekhukhune wars. The Abel Erasmus pass was named after him. He was buried at Krugerspost.
