MONUMENT KOPPIE

The name was given as Monument Koppie referring to the Voortrekker Monument band the two forts.

Fort Schanskop
Fort Schanskop, one km east of the Monument – Due to the Jameson Raid in 1895 it was decided to build forts for the defence of Pretoria. Designed by Christiaan Kuntz and built by the German company Krupp.  This fort was built and handed over to the government on 6 April 1897. The British took over the fort after Pretoria surrender on 5 June 1900. Declared a National monument on 8 July 1938.
Fort Klapperkop
Fort Klapperkop, om farm Groenkloof, Joan Rissik Str – Building started in 1896 and was handed over to the government on18 January 1898. Designed by Kuntz and built by Krupp. Declared a National Monument in 1938. A Long Tom Creusot canon was mounted here but was moved to the Natal front in November 1899.
Steam Locomotive SAR Class 6B no 498
Steam Locomotive SAR Class 6B no 498, at Fort Klapperkop – (plate incorrectly reads 537) built in 1897 by Neilson & Co. During the ABW (1899-1902) for carrying British troops and supplies to Pretoria. it was used by the Imperial Military Railways.  This train served on coal duty at Germiston.
No 30 the last Pretoria Tram
No 30 the last Pretoria Tram, at Fort Klapperkop – The electric trams run in Pretoria replacing horse drawn trams in 1910. No 30 was the last electric tram to do service in Pretoria on 19 August 1939. It was then replaced by electric trolleybuses. This tram was housed outside the Tram Shed and used as a coffee shop until 2007.
Pump Station
Pump Station, Fountains Valley (Fonteinedal) – Built in 1902 by the British to supply water to the military at Roberts Height (Voortrekkerhoogte). Originally run by steam engines and replaced by electric motors. The then chimney and boiler rooms were demolished. The boiler rooms were on the right. 
Two Fountains
Two Fountains – Fountains Valley A monument was erected between the two original fountains.  The fountains yield 5 million gallons water per day and was the sole supply to Pretoria for 75 years since 1855. The water was running in farrows.  The farm belonged to the Bronkhorst brothers. The Volksraad of the ZAR bought the area of the springs from them on 20 August 1863.
