Van Wyksrust Prison and Fort
Van Wyksrust Prison and Fort, R553 Golden Highway & R554, Olifantsvlei – 1898 Built by the ZAR – in ruins – This was the first prison in the Transvaal. Known as “Number One” at the time. In 1900 during the 2nd ABW 64 prisoners of war was released by Danie Theron’s scouts.
Zuurbekom Pumphouse
Zuurbekom Pumphouse, N12 cnr R558, Lenasia – The pumphouse was erected in 1899 by the Johannesburg Waterworks Estate and Exploration Co Ltd. It was taken over by the Rand Water Board in 1905. It was declared a National Monument in 1977.
