LANGEBAAN
On the eastern shore of the Langebaan lagoon. Founded about 1870. The name means ‘long track’ or ‘long course’ and refers to the extensive stretch of beach. The Langebaan Lagoon is the repository of a thick layer of oyster shells which are dredged up and crush to make lime.
Old Dutch Reformed Church
Old Dutch reformed Church, Oosterwal st – This building dated 1872. It was donated to the congregation by Willem van der Byl. It was declared a National Monument on 29 May 1984. A new church was erected next to this building. Now used by the Anglican church.
Pulpit, Old DR Church
Pulpit, old DR Church – Made for the DR Church in Stellenbosch by Adam Albertyn in 1721. After 130 years it was donated to the DR Church Zoutrivier (now Hopefield) in 1853. It was then donated to the DR Church of Langebaan in 1878. It was declared a Nationmal Monument on 29 May 1984.
Geelbek, West Coast National Park
Geelbek, West Coast National Park – This house was built by Alexander van Breda on the farm Geelbeksfontein in 1860. Gable indicated A.V.B. 1860. A ringmuur is in front of the house and a bell tower at the back. It was declared a National Monument.
